One-eyed cat

Eleven-year-old Ned disobeys his parents and sneaks the air rifle his uncle has given him out of the attic to take just one shot, but he is overcome with guilt when a one-eyed cat turns up at an elderly neighbor's woodshed and Ned is sure he is responsible for its sorry condition.
