Political parties before the Constitution

Draws from an analysis of voting patterns, as well as the letters, writing, speeches, and campaigns of politicians in the lower houses of the various state assemblies between 1776 and 1878 to show that legislators formed into consistent blocs that displayed continuity and cohesion long before organizing into national political parties.
