Archaeologist Ruth Galloway's happy, solitary life in the Saltmarsh, a remote area of England, is disturbed when she is drawn into the case of a little girl who went missing ten years earlier, and whose memory is kept alive by bizarre anonymous letters sent to Detective Chief Inspector Harry Nelson.
