Seven roads to hell

The author, a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division during World War II, recalls the eleven-day battle of Bastogne during which the Screaming Eagles, in freezing weather and without adequate supplies or ammunition, held off the Nazi onslaught against the small Belgian crossroads town long enough for Patton's Third Army to redeploy from the south.
