On August 2, 1947, a young man got off the train in a small Swedish town to begin his life a second time. He survived the ghetto of Lodz, the death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau, the slave camps, and the transports during the final months of Nazi Germany. Now, his final challenge is to survive the survival. His story is told by his son, who tried to get close to him, using a child's joy and optimism, but who found that his father's world was darkened by the long shadows of the past.
