A mysterious gypsy places a cruel curse on the guests at a ball and when terrible misfortunes begin to befall some of those guests, Mr. Donald Wheelwright engages Sherlock Holmes to find out what really happened that night, with the help of his cousin Dr. Henry Vernier and Henry's wife Michelle.
