Five days after Archer and Sefia escape from the Guard, the two have learned the truth about Sefia's parents and also shared one unforgettable kiss together. Hiding in the Delienean forest, Sefia and Archer know they don't have much time before the Guard comes after them, trying to get the Book and Archer back under their control--however, as they run and rescue more boys to fight in Archer's cause, Archer's bloodthirst only grows, and Sefia worries the boy she fell in love with will become a coldhearted killer.
