Examines the notion of hierarchies and explores how hierarchies have throughout human history driven social, cultural, and political change--from the hierarchical structure of the brain and the food chain to the family tree and the organization of Freemasonry. Compares and contrasts hierarchies of the upper echelons of society, such as government and business, and argues that in reality throughout most of history the hierarchies that hold real power have been among the "common" people spreading ideas.
