Dear Mrs. Bird

Living in London during World War II, Emmy hopes to help out with the war effort when she applies for a job at the "London Evening Chronicle." She wants to become a war correspondent, but she is hired as a typist for Henrietta Bird, an advice columnist. Mrs. Bird insists that all "unpleasant" letters be tossed, but Emmy is touched by their troubles. She starts to answer them privately, using the columnist's name.
