The return of the Yellowstone grizzly

Once present in every state west of the Continental Divide, the grizzly became a threatened species by 1975. Farmers and ranchers, concerned for their stock, had nearly eradicated the bears. Thanks to the efforts of scientists at Yellowstone National Park, this indicator species is reclaiming its prominent place in the ecosystem.
