The wreck of the whaleship Essex

Presents the story of Owen Chase, one of only eight men to survive after the Nantucket whaler, Essex, on which he was first mate, was rammed by an enraged sperm whale on November 20, 1820, and sank, setting the crew of twenty adrift for months without charts, thousands of miles from land.
