Doctor Who and Amy undertake a dangerous mission to Miggea, a remote star which is the site for the competition for the Arrow of Law, as they join forces with the Terraphiles, a group that dedicates themselves to recreating the sporting events of Earth's ancient past.

While looking for a game of chess, Doctor Who lands the Tardis in the middle of an alien invasion of what will someday be Scotland. When the Tardis inexplicably develops afear of water and the Vikings decide to stage a raid as well, the Doctor has his hands more than full.

The Doctor and Amy, following a distress signal, land on the Gyre, a slab of junk over 250,000 years in the future where a battle rages between the shipwrecked Sittuun and the humans, as a deadly comet approaches, but when the Doctor is kidnapped, Amy must turn to famous swashbuckler Dirk Slipstream for help.
