Monkey King / Chen, Weidong

A graphic novel adaptation of the classic Chinese story "The Journey to the West," in which Sun Wu Kong, or the Monkey King, having been born from stone on Spring Mountain and seeking to learn the secrets of eternal life, studies under Master Puti, but, as his powers get stronger, he begins to run afoul of the gods.

Having annoyed the Jade Emperor enough, the gods of Heaven grant Sun Wu Kong, the Monkey King, the title of "Emperor of Heaven," and place him in charge of a heavenly peach orchard. However, the Monkey King's mischievous ways will not let him stay out of trouble for long.

The Monkey King is born from a rock on top of Spring Mountain, and leads the other monkeys of the island to a great treasure. However, the Monkey King's conceit soon gets the better of him, and in his quest for eternal life he angers the gods of Heaven, so much as to call himself "Emperor of Heaven.".
