Describes the preparations that began in summer to get ready for New Year's Day. The time is 1941 in Quebec as a young boy explores an important New Year tradition.

Roch dreams of boxing and beating the biggest cotes. He trains and trains until the big day when he will be the champion, but of what?.

A strange girl named Adeline shows up at the daisy field where Roch and his friends play baseball. She then hits a towering home run through the house window of the scariest man in town.

Roch is homesick and miserable after being sent to the seminary even though he is eager to pursue his education, but when he finds out the priest wants him to be on the basketball team, he decides the only thing to do is run away.

With every boy in a small Quebec town wearing the sweater of the Montreal Canadiens to play hockey, one child is horrified when, because of a mail order mix-up, he is forced to wear a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater.

Contains a retelling of the classic Canadian folktale. "Chasse-galerie" wherein eleven-year old Baptiste, working in a remote logging camp, misses his friends and family, and the working lumberjacks come up with a magical plan to get back home in time for the New Year.
