Interstellar antiquities dealer Alex Benedict and his assistant Chase Kolpath return from vacation to their home base on Rimway to find that celebrated writer Vicki Greene, who had sent a cryptic message requesting their help, has asked for and received a mind wipe after transferring an enormous sum of money to Alex's account, and the duo sets out to discover what they have been paid to investigate.
