Written by a country vicar, the hit Shadowmancer series is possible because that vicar listened to his calling. Graham Taylor, the vicar in question, had been a problem child, a roadie for a punk rock band, been into drugs, and, repenting of his wildness, a policeman. But the call of a higher power could not be denied and he returned to Yorkshire, married his wife, and became a vicar.
