the myster raider that terrorized the seas during World War I
On November 30, 1916, an apparently ordinary freighter left Kiel, Germany. It would not touch land again for fifteen months and 64,000 miles. The Wolf was a German naval raider sent on a suicide mission to terrorize distant Allied ports by laying minefields and sinking freighters. To stay a secret the Wolf could never pull into port or use her radio. But the Wolf was worse than a ship that terrorized the sea---it was also a prison. Women and children and passengers from twenty-five different nations were on board. The captain complied with the rules of sea warfare and tried to avoid kiling civilians aboard the ships he attacked. The crew and passengers formed a unique bond as they were all forced to survive on food and fuel plundered from other ships.
