During the Christmas truce of 1914, British soldier Hal Montgomery promises Wilhelm Wetzlar, his German enemy, that he will find Wetzlar's English girlfriend and let her know he is still alive; however, when Hal tries to keep his promise, he finds himself falling in love with her.
