Museum guard Larry Daley leaves his job at New York's Natural History Museum after the exhibits are replaced by holograms and the originals sent to the Smithsonian, but he finds a new purpose when he learns that the ancient Egyptian tablet of Ahkmenrah which makes the exhibits come to life was shipped to the Smithsonian as well, with possibly dire consequences.
