Angie, a sixteen-year-old from a working-class suburb of St. Louis, struggles with her weight, her sexuality, the arrival of her mother's boyfriend in her home, and, especially, the hostility of the jocks and popular girls at her school after her short-lived friendship with the school's prettiest girl--who is anorexic and trying to hide it--ends badly.
