The Maeve'ra

Fourteen-year-old Vance, a shapeshifter who adores the vampire guardians who have raised him and respects their Midnight empire ruled by Lady Jeshickah, gradually comes across evidence that supports the revelation of Malachi Obsidian, a shapeshifter rebel who warns Vance that the vampires are grooming him for their own nefarious means.

Malachi Obsidian's prophecy--that his sister, Misha, would one day rule the serpiente and the empire of the vampires be destroyed--is nearly come true. Only one obstacle prevents Misha from becoming queen, and when a mercenary from the vampires' inner circle brings forth his plan to end the empire, all of the serpiente are certain the prophecy was right. However, Malachi is not so sure of himself, and when Misha goes to unstable, possibly evil, lengths to fulfill it, Malachi seeks for a way to protect his family and their freedom.

When a shapeshifter/vampire nation is charged with a crime against Midnight that sixteen-year-old Kadee and her friend Vance played a hand in, Kadee feels compelled to return to the Shantel forest where she must confront her past and the decisions she has made in the pursuit of freedom.
