African-American Derek Strange, a rookie cop in 1969, encounters both personal and racial conflicts in pursuit of his career which sometimes pits him against his own family and friends, especially when violence breaks out in Washington D.C., in the wake of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
