Anneke Haagen, only days from her wedding, still finds time to work on her computer games and chat online with a group of computer gamers, and when one of the members of her mailing list is murdered, Anneke decides that the perfect way to solve the crime is to turn it into a murder game that all the prime suspects can play.

Anneke Haagen and Karl Genesko, a police lieutenant, search for a killer named "The Jap". Anneke's efforts take her to the studio of a local painter, to a giant antiques and crafts fair, and into the lives and secrets of a number of her friends and acquaintances.
