studying the calls and songs of whales, elephants, and birds
Sayre, April Pulley
2002
Examines the work of several bioacousticians, scientists who study the sounds made by living creatures, discussing the results and importance of their research.
As a sleepy boy decides it is bedtime and sets out across the farm toward home, he meets several animals who, in their noisy way, express the same idea.
A sheep wants nothing but to go to sleep in the big red barn on the farm, but each time he closes his eyes, another animal moos or neighs or peeps to come in.
As the farm slowly comes to life, each animal stirs and speaks in his own distinctive voice, but the scarecrow says nothing until he discovers a mouse in his pants.
