The Six Sho's pursuit of Hinohara leads to a confrontation between one of the most powerful of the Six Sho, Ameeno, and Ameeno's son, Nasake, one of Hinohara's most loyal companions.
While on a mission disguised as a girl, Hinohara becomes utterly dismayed when Shinsho Kugura takes a liking to him, meanwhile, Hinohara's rival Kadowaki shows up and initiates a showdown.
Hinohara and his companions arrive in a town ruled by Kugura, the Shinsho who controls wind, but since Kugura's palace is forbidden to men, the group concoct a plan to infiltrate the place in disguise.
While on his quest to help Princess Kikuri, Hinohara goes up against Yorunami, the Shinsho who controls water, but then Yorunami kidnaps Hinohara's beloved Kotoha and threatens to kill her unless Hinohara submits to him.
Hinohara discovers to his horror that his tormentor Kadowaki has followed him to Arata's world and, recalling his suffering, Hinohara flies into a rage that triggers his transformation into a demonic entity.
In a world where humans and gods coexist, Arata is a member of the Hime Clan. One day, he winds up in the modern world and switches places with a boy named Arata Hinohara.
Hinohara becomes more resolved in his mission now that he knows he is the rightful wielder of the powerful Hayagami called "Tsukuyo," however, Kannagi comes after Hinohara, intent on taking Tsukuyo for himself.
Arata, the sucessor to the matriarchal Hime Clan, must pose as a girl in order to maintain his birthright, and switches places with Hinohara, a boy in the modern world, when his life is threatened by power-hungry warriors.
Arata faces off against Ikisu, an enemy whose power to control emotions has isolated Arata from his companions, but in order to defeat him, Arata commits an act for which he may not be able to forgive himself.
Arata and Hinohara finally catch each other up on the events of the worlds they've been switching between and conclude that they must revive the potent Amatsuriki power in their two companions if they plan to defeat the Six Sho.
