Contains twenty-two short fiction works by nineteenth-century American author Herman Melville, including "Billy Budd, Sailor," the story of a sailor who is sentenced to death after striking and killing a superior officer who had falsely accused him of plotting mutiny.

Young Ishmael and the harpooner Queenqueg work aboard the whaling ship Pequod. But the Pequod is ruled by the mysterious Ahab, a man driven to hunt the cursed white whale called Moby Dick. Careless of his own life and those of his men, Ahab's suicidal quest builds to its inevitable climax: he will destroy the white whale, or be destroyed by it.

A young seaman joins the crew of the whaling ship "Pequod," led by the fanatical Captain Ahab in pursuit of the white whale, Moby Dick.

Narrates the hatred of petty officer Claggart for Billy, a handsome Spanish sailor. Billy strikes and kills Claggart, and is condemned by Captain Vere even though the latter senses Billy's spiritual innocence.
